Chart Check: The Weeknd Dominates Hot 100 Top 10 With Multiple Entries

If ever silent slayage had a face it would probably look like The Weeknd.

Sure, the Canadian crooner may not dominate headlines like his more famous Urban/hip-hop influenced counterparts, but the absence from tabloids and blog headlines has not come with an absence of dominance of charts.  Case in point?  A quick peruse of this week’s Hot 100.

Once there, you’ll discover Abel Tesfaye (The Weeknd’s real name) not once, but twice in the top 10 with his latest single ‘Can’t Feel My Face’ slowly but surely feeling its way to number 1.  His multiple appearances in the tally’s upper dectet has only cemented less places for females as – much like 2014 – males continue control of the Hot 100.

Girl, are you sexual at all??? Wicked Games? The Zone? Twenty Eight?

his music is pure sexual and seductive. His wig game is the only thing not on point.

      • maurice July 25, 2015

sexual? GURRRRRL, i feel more sexual vibes listening to Carly Rae Jepsen.
        His voice too screechy.

Is your fave currently a star on Broadway? I’ll wait.

  6. Ajm265 July 25, 2015

The state of music and the music industry is such a sad space… Gone are the days artists truly made music and knew how to sing and put on a show. Everything is gimmicky and almost inaudible… I feel like the music industry will finally collapse and social media will take over as the big form of entertainment period. I give it 20 years max.

  11. CocoisChanel July 25, 2015

    Wow

  12. Arianator Barb July 25, 2015

I don’t like that’s he’s pop now. A year ago the single he had out was “Often” which, imo, is a much better song. It was what made his early work great. Dark, atmospheric, and dealt with the debauchery he would normally talk about in a lot of his music which was a front for a lot of personal insecurities he had which you would see in the greater picture of his music. Wicked Games was his greatest single and House of Balloons his greatest album (mixtape). I’m not here for his crossover, at least not yet.

  17. Fancy BISH July 25, 2015

The Weeknd has something many contemporary R&B singers don’t…his own style! Abel is slaying because he isn’t afraid to be himself…He’s a laid back talented guy with a darkness to him….kinda reminds me of Eminem in that regard…it’s like we’re listening to something we shouldn’t…Eminem to this day is off-putting to many people…but he found a loyal audience…Abel is slowly doing that…give him time, he might make a song that gives you life…but for now, please respect his originality and laid back approach in a time when artists have to be so visible…Abel lets his music speak…CFMF and his new album Beauty Behind The Madness are both coming for that #1 spot chile…Abel, ha power lol…thank you Rashad! 🙂

  18. B2B July 25, 2015

I love that Can’t Feel My Face song. He is not at all overrated either; Earned it crossed him over to an unimaginable height and his follow ups were perfect! Good luck to him!

  19. eric July 25, 2015

I really just don’t think some of the songs on there should be ahead of “No Sleep”. I have a lot of trouble understanding people’s taste in music nowadays.

  20. Casual-T July 25, 2015

I’m taking note of how diverse the top 20 is. You have everything from hip hop to country(ish) to pop to world. It is also interesting that there are songs in the top 20 that got there without airplay, which underscores the huge shift that has taken place in the music industry over the past few years.

  21. londontru July 25, 2015

Black men are really killing it in the charts. Wheres my sisters tho?

  22. MISHKA July 25, 2015

Good for him, he deserves it.

  23. Travon Austin July 25, 2015

I am so happy to be a Mariah Carey fan. I admit that she has not had a number one album nor song in 7 years. However her career is unmatched by Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Adelle, Beyonce, Jay Z, Flopnika, and everyone else except Madonna. The greatest influence of pop music makes all your faves careers look like garbage. Stay pressed and cling to booty poppin and pu*** loving. Mariah set the bar high and it is evident in today’s music scene. For example Rihanna fans hyped #1 #1 #1 for the the last 5 years and she is barely clinging today. Eminen is the only one that can save her now. She doesn’t write, produce, compose, nor actually sing well on her own material. If Adelle can sell 30 million albums with streaming, so can everyone else. Mariah doesn’t have to stay relevent because as long as your faves have careers she will always be relevant. She will make $500,000 to perform in Israel and $50,000 to show up at 1Oak Nightclub in Vegas. #truelegend
